Weekend Trip to Pendry San Diego!
Good afternoooon everyone! I hope you are having a great day and a great week so far!
As I have mentioned in my past posts, I have a constant itch to travel and explore new places. Even if it is just a quick weekend getaway, I absolutely love escaping from reality and take a break from life. Living in Southern California, actually living in California in general, is so fun because there is an infinite amount of things to do there and you can take so many fun weekend trips to exciting places. You can also reach different climates within one day. I think California is the only state in the US where you can go to the sunny beach, snowy mountains and fall trees all in one day. We decided on San Diego since is just an easy 2 hours away from Huntington Beach, so the perfect little weekend getaway!
My husband and I headed to San Diego for 2 nights to stay at one of my all time favorite hotels, Pendry! It is located right in the middle of the Gaslamp District, down the street from PetCo Park and walking distance to everything. It is a fairly new hotel and I have been fortunate to stay there before for the weekend for a friends wedding.
Right when you walk in to the hotel, it has a very warm, luxurious, modern vibe with a beautiful sitting area and a fire place that has a living room feel to it. The floors have the most beautiful (and aesthetically pleasing!) black and white pattern. The decor in the lobby itself was absolutely spot on. There was so much detail on absolutely everything, you almost feel as if you are in a boutique hotel in the middle of New York City! The front desk has the nicest and most welcoming staff! They all greet you with a big smile as you approach them and they immediately offer you a cold beverage (the most delicious fruit infused water!). We were greeted with the biggest smile by the same Front Desk Agent that checked me in during my last stay, Zoe! She immediately remembered me and came around to give me a hug and made me feel like I just returned home after being away.
She handed us our keys and we were on our way! Zoe was kind enough to put us in a room that was on a high floor, so we had a great view of the city! The second we got in our room, I had that feeling you get when you come home to your parents house for holiday break and it is just so warm and cozy. We had the most beautiful view and we were so excited to relax for the evening. We walked around to explore the hotel a little since I didn’t get to see it all during my last stay. We went to the pool floor where there was no one there (thank you rain!), so we could see it completely calm and it was the most stunning pool area with a view of the whole city, I couldn’t wait until we saw some sun that weekend to go enjoy the pool. - It was even stunning in the rain and gloom!
We chose to stay in our room and order In Room Dining for dinner since it was a pretty gloomy & rainy day. *Side note about me : I LOVE the cozy vibes. Gloomy days, cozying up with fluffy blankets, ordering In Room Dining and ordering movies… I’m allll about it!* We had the best night watching movies and lounging in our Pendry robes.
The next day we slept in a little, which is so rare for me! The beds are probably the most cozy hotel beds i’ve ever been in, i’m not kidding. I could have stayed in bed the entire weekend watching movies if it stayed gloomy. Since it was the most beautiful, sunny day, we decided to venture out and get some sun. We walked to the water and found a little breakfast cafe right on the marina. We had absolutely no plans for the day, which I love. I love roaming aimlessly around a city, getting lost and finding all of the hidden gems. We walked along the water for quite a few miles. Justin is a huge comic book fan, he used to go to Comic Con almost every year in San Diego. We walked all around the convention center as he showed me where everything took place for Comic Con and stories of the times he went. I love hearing things about Justin’s life before we knew each other and what he loves and is passionate about, I feel like we are still learning things about each other every single day.
After a few hours of wandering, shopping and grabbing cocktails at a local bar, we went back to the hotel to relax a little bit before dinner. One of my favorite parts about the rooms at Pendry is the bathroom!! To me, it is the epitome of what a bathroom should look like. It is clean, bright and has the perfect pop of blue accents on the wallpaper. The shower is actually in the middle of the room and you can see right into your room and out the window from the shower. It has the most relaxing rainfall shower head, so it was really the perfect thing to come back to after a long day of walking. While Justin took a nap, I headed down to the spa for some relaxation. I chose the Coastal Renewal Bath Cure, which was SO relaxing. It hydrated my skin so much and was much needed - I was in heaven. I could have fallen asleep in the spa, but I forced myself to get up!
We freshened and cleaned up juuuuuust a little bit and headed out to dinner! Pendry has 2 main restaurants located on the first floor of the hotel. Provisional Kitchen is their every day, breakfast lunch and dinner spot. They serve very unique and creative dishes that have a gourmet, comfort food feel to them. In addition to Provisional Kitchen, they have Lionfish which is Modern Coastal Cuisine. Lionfish is only open for dinner, so we headed over there for dinner. I am a huge seafood fan, but Justin - not so much, but they had plenty of options for him. The food was absolutely phenomenal and they had the yummiest, most creative cocktails! We had an absolute ball and really enjoyed our dinner and our night.
I absolutely love San Diego at night. I am definitely a city girl, so I just love being right in the middle of downtown and the middle of all the excitement. We strolled the streets for a few blocks just to get some fresh air and grab something to satisfy our sweet tooth!
When we got back to the hotel, we did exactly what we did the night before - relaxed! We put our cozy robes back on and jumped in bed, excited to browse the movie list. Justin and I are pros at movie night… it’s a real talent in our household. We’re very proud of it.
Per usual, we passed out mid movie and had the best nights sleep (it’s those beds, i’m telling you!). We woke up the next morning a little sad that we had to leave this beautiful home away from home. We put on some comfy clothes (thank you gloom, again!) and headed down to breakfast. We went inside Provisional Kitchen and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of this restaurant. The ceilings are so high and there are these massive, bright chandeliers that light up the room. The entire restaurant looks like every Instagram Bloggers dream aesthetic. While waiting for our table, we grabbed some coffee from the Espresso Bar and enjoyed looking at the decor of the restaurant. The absolute coolest and best part of Provisional Kitchen???? They have a CHAMPAGNE. VENDING MACHINE. Let me repeat that………
a . c h a m p a g n e . v e n d i n g . m a c h i n e .
An entire vending machine of Moët & Chandon champagne and rose. You can purchase gold coins from the front desk for $25 and collect your bottle from the vending machine. It is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in a restaurant and they even have a special hashtag you can tag your photos on Instagram with, #ChamPendry!
When we were seated, we decided to order the Mimosa Flight where you can choose 3 different mimosas to try. We chose rainbow sherbet, hibiscus lavender and lemon dragonfruit. I LOVE a good mimosa, and these were some of the tastiest I had ever tasted. Our meal was so delicious and such wonderful comfort food to have on our last morning there. After the most yummy, beautiful brunch, we sadly went up to the room to pack away.
I was so sad to exit the room… I almost couldn’t leave. It is such a cozy room and I just feel so at home at Pendry. I pouted the entire walk to the elevator, front desk and allll the way to the car. The Pendry guest reception staff are all just so wonderful at making you feel special and making you feel at home. Everyone we passed by on our way out asked how our stay was and were genuinely interested in hearing about our weekend.
Justin almost had to pick me up and put me in the car, but I reluctantly got in the passengers seat, still pouting. As we drove home I just had the best feeling. We had such a relaxing weekend and I was smiling to ear to ear. I loved getting alone time with Justin (by alone time I mean without our 3 cats jumping on us in the night) and enjoying San Diego. I would absolutely live in San Diego in a heartbeat, I just love the city so much.
I already can’t wait to plan another trip to Pendry. I can’t wait to lay in the cozy bed while looking out onto the city skyline, enjoy yummy mimosas, and get champagne out of a vending machine again. Now, I need to visit the others! There is currently a Pendry Baltimore and other’s that are curr ently in construction!
Thank you, Pendry!
