Home Updates & Sunday Thoughts
Do any of you have that one movie that you could watch on repeat and it will never get old no matter what? I am currently watching Pride & Prejudice (as I do almost every Sunday lol) and I just can’t explain how much I love this movie. I am a very old soul, I love everything classical, English/French architecture and interiors and I love period pieces. I find them so calming and I could watch them over and over. The second I hear “Dawn” by Jean-Yves Thibaudet playing, all of the noise around me in the world stops and I just enter a state of zen. I could watch Pride & Prejudice over and over again and never get sick of it. I truly think I was meant to live in England back during those times in some grand chateau in the English countryside. Or I just wish I was Keira Knightley and got to experience filming all of these incredible movies! My favorite thing to do on the weekends is just to put on a classic movie and clean or redecorate the house. I know, I’m 80 years old. But it makes me happy! And that’s all that matters, right??
In the past in places we have lived, I have always tried so hard to keep up with the home decor trends that are “in” and hip during that time. It may not necessarily be trends or styles that I personally am in love with, but I just always thought it was the right thing to do. When we lived in California, every place we lived had the typical coastal, wicker/rattan, Serena & Lily blue style. When we moved to Kansas City, I still had all of that stuff and I just realized that it was not my style. I still think it is gorgeous and I’m not hating on it AT ALL, I just don’t think it’s my true style. After watching so many movies during quarantine and hours of scrolling Pinterest, I have realized that I very much love a “Modern Victorian with French details” style. I have found so many absolutely stunning homes on Pinterest that I use for inspiration and I have found bloggers who share a similar style. I had absolutely no idea how stunning it could be and everyone I have seen has truly made it their own.
Here are some of the inspo photos I have been loving the most:
I just love how every home in the photos is so unique, but they follow along the similar style. You truly can have so much fun with this style of decor and it just feels so elegant.
We are still currently renting our home, so we don’t have too much free range on changing things. We are hoping to buy a house by the end of the year, so hopefully I will be able to make something truly my own soon! Even though we have a smaller space, I have been trying to change little things here and there that more fit this style. The coolest thing about this style of decor is you can find so many vintage items at local antique shops that aren’t super expensive! There are still so many things i want to get, but like I said - we are saving for a house so unfortunately I can’t go crazy like I want to! Justin would probably kill me if I bought the faux mantle I have been eyeing on Wayfair for 4 months lol.
This is the area right by our front door. Before, it was so empty and I absolutely hated the awkward space. I added this linen lounge chair and I had this side table laying around that was perfect for it. The side table was very old and it used to be white, so I decided to paint it this gorgeous black with a glossy finish and I am so obsessed with how it turned out. I added some trinkets I had around the house and it really completed the look.

This console is one of my favorite things I own! My mom picked it up from the side of the road and it was just sitting there waiting for someone to pick up. She didn’t have any use for it, but knew I would love it. When she first got it, it was a very dark blue color that did not match anything of mine. I painted it a pale blue color that I just loved and replaced the hardware with these knobs from Anthropologie. After about a year of it being light blue, I painted it this beautiful sage green color. I am absolutely obsessed with sage lately and I just love it.

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through Instagram stories and came across Jenny Cipoletti’s (who I freaking ADORE) and she created this mood board on her wall. It was so different from any mood board I had ever seen before, it was so stunning. When I hear “mood board” I think of clippings of random photos and different letters cut out from different magazine headlines in middle school. She made it absolutely stunning, I knew I needed to do one. I have a totally empty wall in my office and figured this was the absolute perfect thing to put there. It is a work in progress, but I am just in love with it. I took different photos from books and magazines, tickets from visiting places in Paris & London, and beautiful silk ribbons.
As I am wrapping up this post, I am now watching Sense & Sensibility and my heart is just so happy. I can’t wait until we can travel back to London and be in my happy place. If you made it this far, thank you! I appreciate you being here so much.
Always feel free to message me on Instagram here!
