Moving Update

We have made it to Kansas City! MAAAAAN. A week ago, it was hard to see this day in the near future. Last week was roooough.

It seemed like we had so much time 3 weeks ago… but time is a funny thing and runs out way too quickly. Last week seemed like it went by in a flash, but it also feels like it was a month ago. I had my last day at work last Monday which was SO emotional. My sweet co workers made it the most special day and made me feel so loved. I was a sobbing mess when I left that day. Justin had his last day at Disney on Tuesday and that was such a surreal feeling. He worked at Disney for 11 years (!!!) and it is where we met 5 1/2 years ago, so it felt so weird to say goodbye. I got to visit Justin and spent the day at Disneyland. We ended the day by watching A Christmas Fantasy, my favorite parade! Once both of our last days were over, it was hard work time.

Instead of renting a moving truck, we rented this new service from Uhaul called U-Boxes. They are just these large pods that Uhaul drops off to your home, you pack up and they pick them up a few days later! They ship them for you, so you don’t have to do anything. It was honestly the easiest process and it was so seamless. I was v impressed with Uhaul.

We originally planned on leaving for our 23 hour roadtrip on Thanksgiving evening. Justin wanted to drive through the night while it was dark and I would drive during the day. The morning of Thanksgiving, it was POOOOURING RAIN. Like not just a light drizzle….absolutely pouring rain all day long. We still had a lot to pack up in the pods before they were picked up, so we were lifting and moving by ourselves in the rain all day. We were absolutely soaked all day and it was truly traumatizing lol. We thought we could get everything done, buuuuut we didn’t. I still had to clean the apartment after everything was gone and we just ran out of time.

We decided to call it a day and leave the next day instead. Our bodies were in so much pain, we truly couldn’t move another muscle. We looked at the amount of stuff we still had to do and just couldn’t do it. We headed over to Justin’s mom’s house for Thanksgiving with his family and spent the night there. We woke up at 4 a.m. and headed back to our apartment to wrap things up and clean. When we finally finished, the sun came out juuuust in time to drive out of California. We hit the road at about 11 a.m. and our road trip began!

We were checking the weather pretty regularly to see if we would run into any heavy weather and it looked like it was all clear from Arizona to New Mexico to Kansas City. We got to Phoenix around 5 and then I took over to drive. After driving for a couple hours, it started to get super dark and we couldn’t really see our surroundings. We figured we were in a mountain, but we honestly didn’t know. When we stopped for gas, there was snow on the ground. I figured the snow had passed… boy was I wrong. As I kept driving, the snow got heavier and heavier and I couldn’t even see the road anymore. It was veeeeeery scary, but we finally got through it. Around 4 a.m somewhere in New Mexico, we decided we needed to stop at a hotel and sleep for a few hours before continuing. As much as we wanted to get to KC, our safety was much more important.

We got a few hours of sleep and hit the road again at 8 a.m.! We drove through Oklahoma, alll through Kansas and finally hit Kansas City at about 7:30 p.m. We pulled up to my moms house and our heads hit the pillow the second we sat down! I couldn’t believe we just did a 23 hour road trip, I still can’t! I literally never want to get in the car again. My mom, dad, sister and her boyfriend came over to toast to us getting here and it immediately felt like home. To be with almost my whole family in the same room…it was amazing. We were just missing a few others like my oldest sissy!

We have been here for 5 days and we already feel so at home. We have been staying with my mom until we find a place that we really love! We keep going back and forth between a cute house or an apartment downtown. It feels soooo crazy to be here. Since I don’t start my new job until the 16th, it still just feels like we are on vacation! The cats have been adjusting really well. The first night here was rough and Sawyer would not stop crying, but it has gotten so much better. They are starting to feel at home which makes me so happy. It is so crazy driving these streets with Justin in Justin’s car! We already feel so at home here.

A couple of nights ago, I went to a sweet holiday shopping party at Terrasi Living at the Plaza with my mom and sister! Terrasi Living has the most amaaaaazing home decor, candles, linens, etc… It was so surreal being able to go to a holiday party with my mom and sister! Last night, my sister came over and we watched Real Housewives of Orange County… I can never ever say that!!!

Now that we are finally moved and getting settled, I will get back on a regular blogging schedule! I’m not doing a Christmas gift guide because there are just so many out there, but I will have a lot of really fun content coming out soon! Christmas is the most fun time of year and I will be sharing a lot of cool stuff. Kansas City is truly a magical place at Christmas, so i will definitely be sharing the best things to do in the city around the holidays! Ice skating at Crown Center, pop up Christmas bars, The Nutcracker at Kauffman Center, and soooo much more.

Sorry, this post was totally pointless, but I just wanted to give a little update and start posting more regularly! If you made it this far, thank you lol! I’m fully aware this was a totally boring post.
