Our Exciting News!

Helloooo everyone!!

I feel like I literally start every single blog saying this now lol… BUT I apologize for being so MIA lately and not keeping up with my blog! I promise this time it’s actually for a legitimate reason which you will learn about iiiiiin like 45 seconds. Justin and I are going through a little life change and we have some awesome news to share! I will just get right to it because I am too freaking excited to share this news! No, we aren’t preggo….

YEP! You read that right!!! WE ARE MOVING TO KANSAS CITY!!!!! Wow I have been waiting MONTHS to say that!!!!! Yikes sorry, lots of caps and exclamation posts there, but I don’t care! As I have mentioned in my previous posts, I am originally from there! I moved to California 6 years ago and I met my husband and got married in the meantime. It took us a while to come to this decision, but we are so freaking excited we can’t stand it.

I am going to be totally transparent with you all, it was not easy coming to this decision! When I first brought Justin to Kansas City to visit 4 years ago, he fell in love with it. He wanted to move there and so did I. He loved the weather, the people, the history, everything. We talked about it for a few months, but then the idea kind of fizzled away and we didn’t talk about it anymore. Fast forward a few years… I first approached Justin with this idea about 3 months before our wedding, so like a year and a half ago. He was completely honest with his feelings and explained to me that he was not looking to move anymore. He was born and raised in California, so it makes sense he wouldn’t want to leave his home. It’s no secret that California is VEEEEERRRRYYY expensive. At our age, it is so hard to save money in this town to work towards buying a house or being able to travel more. I want to be able to buy things that I want and I want to be able to travel on a whim. Kansas City is so much more affordable, which is one of the main reasons I wanted to move. I want an adorable house with a yard and a dog.

In November of 2018, I mentioned it to Justin again just to see if his feelings had changed at all. We talked about it for about a month and went back and forth on if he was ready or not. He was not jumping at the idea of moving. He told me honestly that he needed time, he wasn’t ready to make that decision yet, which I completely understood. Fast forward to 3 months ago after we left it alone for a while, I brought it up one more time. He told me he knew it would be a smart move for us, but he was scared, rightfully so. We had been planning a trip out to Kansas City in September, so he said we could look at some places and just play with the idea. It wasn’t an official yes, but it was a “let’s explore KC and see what we find.” That was all I needed to hear. I just needed to have some hope instead of a straight “no.”

We went on our trip and we had the best time. It was the best week ever. On our second to last night in Kansas City, we were at the Crossroads Hotel rooftop bar with my sister, Ali. Justin revealed to us that he was ready to make this change. He was ready to at least try it out to see if Kansas City was the place for him. I just stood there and started sobbing because I was so excited to move home for a little bit and see where it could take us.

The next day, it was as if the universe was saying something to us. The whole week we were there, it was soooo hot and humid. Like middle of summer humid. On the day we were leaving, we woke up to the most beautiful, crisp, cold fall day - which is our favorite weather. Justin and I walked along the streets of River Market and it felt right. We knew in our hearts we needed to give Kansas City a chance and see if we can better our lives. If KC is not a good fit, we will always have California or even London (our dream lol one day!)! The future is so exciting. We ate pumpkin spice french toast (soo yum) at the cutest cafe and made the decision to just go for it. If not now, when??

My mom picked us up from my sisters apartment and we went to lunch with her before she dropped us off at the airport. Justin told my mom at lunch that he made the decision to move and she turned into a ball of happy tears and hugged him. That will go down as one of the best moments of my life.

It was ROUGH getting on the plane in Kansas City. We wanted to stay and we immediately began the job hunt when we got home. We didn’t need to think or talk about it anymore, we just wanted to do it.

I was hired at an amazing company in Kansas City and I am so, so excited to start this new chapter!! We will be packing up Justin’s car and will begin our 22 hour journey to California on November 29th! We will be able to spend Thanksgiving with Justin’s family and then we will take off the next morning!

I am so excited to do this adventure with Justin. We have moved to different apartments before, but this is such a huge moment in our lives and I’m just so grateful I get to do it with him. When I moved to California 6 years ago, I had 2 suitcases and that’s it. Now, I am moving back with a husband and our little kitties.

Gosh, I am just so excited. I’m so excited to go to Chief’s games again, to my favorite restaurants, to stroll The Plaza and go shopping, see Kansas City at Christmas, the ice rink at Crown Center, everything. I have loved the last 6 years in California. We are going to miss so many things about California… Justin’s family, my aunts, uncles, cousins, grandma, etc…, the beach, In n Out, sunny warm weather, and many more. The things I will not miss… the traffic, the rude drivers, 90 degree weather on Christmas and Thanksgiving lol. This isn’t goodbye to California, it’s just a see you later!

Here are a few of my favorite photos of Kansas City so you can see why we love it so much! KC is truly such an underrated city. It has everything… sports, shopping, history, all 4 seasons, etc. But the absolute best part about KC is the sense of community. Every person you walk by on the street will smile at you, people will actually let you into their lane on the road, you can spark up a conversation with literally anyone and find something in common. It really is a magical place and there is no place in the entire world like it.

This photo is extra special to me. I took this photo 4 years ago when I first brought Justin to Kansas City. It was our last day there and it was the most beautiful, Fall day. We were standing on my dad’s front porch and I snapped this photo. Right after I took this was when Justin told me he wants to move to Kansas City one day.

Aaaaand these next photos are not mine, but you can get an idea of how magical Kansas City is around the holidays.

The best part about being young is that we have so much to experience still…. We have our whole lives ahead of us and that is so exciting. It is very bittersweet to leave California, but I will go more into that later!
