Our Holiday Decor
Can you guys believe it is already December?? I don’t even know how that happened. It was March 2 seconds ago! I don’t know about you all, but I am very ready for this year to be over with. This year has been filled with so much darkness. One thing that can bring a little light into this dark year is Christmastime! I have definitely been a little happier than usual this month because of the holiday decorations, christmas music, sparkly lights…. everything. It just fills my heart with so much joy.
Justin is usually the type of person that doesn’t like any Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving (although I usually just do it anyways lol). This year, he was totally on board with celebrating a little earlier than usual. I started slowly decorating our little townhouse the day after Halloween, but when we got our Christmas tree, it truly came together. Our decorations aren’t anything the belong in a magazine or anything, but it just makes me so happy to add garland and sparkles to almost everything in the house. I didn’t go too crazy at Anthropologie this year haha. I did, however, go a little crazy at Target.
I always grew up with the big, tall pre-lit faux trees, we never had real trees! Justin always grew up with real trees, so when we started spending holidays together, he introduced me to my first real tree. I haven’t gone back since… I absolutely love picking out our tree together. This year, we went with a frasier fur tree. It looks so beautiful and smells absolutely amazing. Every time I walk into my living room, I immediately smell the pine and it makes me very happy.
Just a disclaimer really quick - I am by means no interior designer - not even close! I just find joy in decorating our little home and thought I would share :)
Total disclaimer - I used my dad’s house for these images of the houses! He has the most beautiful mantles in his house and these adorable village houses deserved to have a great back drop!
These little houses are from Anthropologie and they are unfortunately sold out! They sold out so fast once they hit the website!
Seagrass Wrapped Serving Bowl
London Christmas Plate

The tiny village houses are from Target’s dollar section!
The Christmas glasses are from Target a few years ago!
Spiced Cider Candle

These little village houses at Target sold out SO FAST! They were alll over Instagram on every bloggers page, so they went super fast.
The Grinch on… always…
Swarovski Annual Ornament
My dad has been gifting me and my sisters these Swarovski ornaments ever since I was little. It makes me so happy to see the ornaments throughout the years on my tree and it is more and more special each year.
My mom got this Cinderella carriage ornament so long ago, way before I was Cinderella at Disneyland. I always dressed up as Cinderella when I was a child, so it is so special that I got to play her.
Okay wow I’m sorry! I didn’t realize it was going to be that many photos haha. You know how it goes… you can’t pick favorites! I’m totally aware that not all of our decor matches, but I used items from past Christmases and went a little crazy on the new decor at Target. We are old fashioned and still use ornaments from our childhoods because it is just so fun to take them out every year and see that little gingerbread man made out of macaroni from pre-school. I love seeing that part of Justin’s life that I wasn’t a part of!
Again, this could all look like total crap, and that’s okay! I love Christmas, I love decorating for Christmas, I love it all. My home feels so cozy at all times and I just love looking at the tree while watching tv or working.
I also wanted to share some of the fun holiday spots that I’ve been to so far in my town! Christmas is BIG in Kansas City, so this year it is really incredible to see how people are being creative with celebrating the holidays while still being safe and taking all of the safety precautions.
Miracle at the Plaza Pop Up Bar
When we moved to Kansas City last year, I always saw people posting photos at this Christmas bar with lights and ornaments hanging everywhere and I always wanted to go SO badly. Every time I would pass it, there would be a line wrapped around the building. I am personally just not a huge fan of large crowds, I have no idea why - I’m just not a fan! This year, they still opened the bar as usual, however, this time was reservation only and the capacity was lowered significantly. I felt super comfortable about going and I was excited to experience it without the huge crowd! I went with Justin, my sister Ali and her boyfriend Bryan and we had so much fun. The second we walked in, they were playing my favorite movie of all time - THE GRINCH! And yes, I said favorite movie of all time, not just favorite Christmas movie! There were twinkle lights hanging from the ceiling, balloon ornaments, the leg lamp from “A Christmas Story,” reindeer on the ceiling, little Christmas trinkets all over the place. We got there at the best time, there was almost no one there. I think my eyes grew 3x in size looking at all of the lights on the ceiling. They serve drinks in the cutest glasses and they are 10/10. Ali and I had the Christmapolitan which was vodka, elderflower, dry vermouth, spiced cranberry sauce, rosemary, lime, and absinthe mist. It was truly * chefs kiss *. They have 3 locations in Kansas City, visit the website here to make reservations!
Union Station’s Christmas Light Walk Through
My in laws were in town a few weeks ago and we had so much fun showing them around Kansas City. They had never been here before and it was so fun being a tourist in my own city and showing them everything Kansas City has to offer. KC is a place that people wouldn’t think to come to at first, but it truly is such a special place. One of my favorite buildings to take people to is Union Station. It has the most beautiful details on the ceiling and it is truly breathtaking. As we walked into Union Station, I suddenly saw a huge line forming. Although Union Station is gorgeous, it isn’t typically a place for large gatherings, so I was a little confused. As we walked up a little further, I saw the entire ceiling lit up in lights. I actually squealed like a 4 year old - it was so gorgeous! The line was WAY too long to wait in, so we decided to go back tomorrow to check it out. We went the next day and, to our surprise, there was no line at all! We were 1 or 4 other families in the walk through, so we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves! As we walked in, my eyes were literally filled with sparkle. Lights were draped along every ceiling and pillar, a giant Christmas tree, life size ornaments and it was complete with a Christmas train, of course! We had so much fun walking through and seeing the lights. It is such a fun thing to do to get in the holiday spirit. Check out more info here!
I am in disbelief that it is already the middle of December. I wish Christmas celebrations would last for months and months, it is the happiest time of year. Wow, this post has been full of so much cheese that I could build a charcuterie board. I’m going to stop before I annoy myself and anyone reading this.
ANYWAYS - I’m sorry this post was so long, but I hope you enjoyed!
