Disneyland / 1 Year Wedding Anniversary
I can’t even believe it has been a WHOLE YEAR. I know there are people out there celebrating 50-60 years married so 1 year sounds like nothing, but it really is special. It feels like our wedding was yesterday and it also feels like it was 10 years ago. Justin and I always say that it has never felt like the honeymoon phase is over. It feels like we have been in the honeymoon phase for 5 years. Everyone always asks me “how is marriage?! what is different?!” and I say the same thing every time... We are the same people that met 5 years ago at the Disneyland main gate. I don’t feel like anything has changed because we have felt married since then. We knew this was it the moment we met.
I had this whole post planned that was going to be like “10 things we have learned in our fist year of marriage!!!” I had it all typed up and everything, then I deleted it! I thought to myself, who am I to tell anyone what you should be learning or doing in your first year of marriage? Every single relationship is different and I think everyone does marriage differently, and that is so beautiful! I will say the one thing we learned that everyone always says… COMMUNICATION. IS. KEY. We have learned how to read each other and how open up to each other without overreacting or getting angry. We, of course, have our moments where we may argue, as everyone does! We have really learned how to have an adult conversation and just talk it out.
I have been begging Justin to take me to Disneyland for weeeeeks because it is Halloween time at Disneyland! My absolute faaaaavorite time of year. I love when the park gets decked out in fall leaves, pumpkins and The Nightmare Before Christmas decor. I love going in the middle of September because I feel like it kicks off the Fall season. On Friday, Justin told me he’s taking me for our Anniversary! Disneyland has a different meaning to us than most people. We met on July 21, 2014 at the Disneyland Main Gate. As many of you know, I worked at Disneyland for 3 years as a face character. I was doing a set and Justin was my character host. We flirted all day long and the rest is history. Disneyland will always have such a special place in our hearts.
Justin has had a leg injury for about a month, so he is still in a walking boot. We only went to Disneyland for a few hours so he wouldn’t overdo it and we had so much fun! It was HOT HOT HOT and Justin had to get a wheelchair because of his leg. We really only went on one ride which is my ALL. TIME. FAVORITE. RIDE… Haunted Mansion Holiday! For Fall and Winter, the classic Haunted Mansion ride transforms into Haunted Mansion Holiday. The ride completely transforms to Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. You can see Jack Skellington and Sally in the ride and Zero too! I love love love it. Since we don’t really get Fall weather in Southern California, you really have to base it on feeling. There are certain things that give me the feeling that it is fall…. Haunted Mansion Holiday included! Other things on the list include the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew from Starbucks (YUUUUM), Fall scented candles, baking chocolate chip pumpkin bread, making chili, pumpkin patches, etc… wow ok now I want to go make chili and pumpkin bread. Dang it.
My ALL. TIME. FAVORITE Disney parade, the Main Street Electrical Parade, is back at Disneyland for only a month. I watched this parade on an old VHS my entire childhood. As a child, I watched the performers get ready in the exact room I was hired as a face character 15 years later which is V surreal. We got front row seats (there was a bit of drama with a rude family taking the spot I saved for an hour and a half but I won’t go into that, this is a positive post!) and I watched my favorite parade with my husband with bright, sparkling eyes.
When we got home, we got our 1 year anniversary cake from the same bakery that did our wedding cake, Susie Cakes Bakery. Our wedding cake was SO FREAKING GOOD but we didn’t get to enjoy it! We had them recreate the top tier of our wedding cake and it was soooooo yummy. We popped the bottle of champagne we got on our wedding night and toasted to 1 year down.
We thought about doing a fun trip for our anniversary, but then we decided we just wanted to do something that felt like us. Disneyland and cake and champagne at home was the absolute perfect way to wrap up our first year of marriage.
Here is to many, many more!!!
Fun fact: I had NEVER had a Disneyland corn dog until this moment! I always see people getting them and raving about them and I had never had one before! I finally tried it and it was yuuuuuuu-uhhh-mmmy. I got apples with mine and it was the prefect treat after Justin and I were both a lil hangry.
Haunted Mansion Holiday! It is sooooo cute!
This is the exact spot where we met on July 21, 2014. It is absolutely amazing that we are here now celebrating our wedding anniversary.
Our amazing anniversary cake!
As I mentioned before, Susie Cakes bakery recreated the top tier of our wedding cake! We had a 4 tier wedding cake and every other layer was either Celebration Vanilla (kinda like funfetti) or Chocolate and Vanilla marble with buttercream frosting. The cake tasted just as good as it did the night of our wedding! I picked up some white roses from Trader Joes since we had white roses on our wedding cake. Our amazing calligrapher, Kaylyn of Pirouette Paper Company, had these laser cut “bride & groom” signs on our sweetheart table. We used the same Kate Spade champagne flutes we used on our wedding night.
I know I have posted our wedding photos a million times, but here are some of my favorites :)
