Staycation in San Diego
Hellooo everyone!
I hope you all loved my last post about Justin! I got so many sweet messages that you guys liked it and that makes me so happy. I know I mention Justin here and there in my posts, but I want you guys to know him and love him just like I do. As I mentioned in my last post, it was Justin’s birthday a few days ago! We went to San Diego for the night. This last Christmas, Justin’s mom and step dad gave me tickets to see one of my favorite people on this planet, Hugh Jackman! It happened to be on Justin’s birthday, so we made a little trip out of it.
I’ve written about my absolute favorite hotel before (see the post here!), but I cannot write enough wonderful things about it. This was my fourth time staying at Pendry San Diego and it just gets better and better every time I come back. On Tuesday, I, per usual, dragged Justin out of bed bright and early to head down there and beat traffic. I used to work in hotels, so I knew our hotel room wasn’t going to be ready right away, nor did I expect it to be. We don’t get to get away too much, so I wanted to take full advantage of our little getaway. San Diego is just a short hour and a half drive away, but it feels like it’s so much further so it was the perfect spot for a little staycation. We pulled up to Pendry at about 11 a.m. We were greeted, as usual, by the most lovely, friendly staff. They wished Justin a happy birthday and got us all checked in. The room wasn’t ready, which was totally fine. We went to walk around the city and see all of the preparations for Comic Con since it was happening the next day. Justin used to go to Comic Con every single year, so it was nice for him to be back seeing all the action again. We went to grab some lunch and went back to the hotel for a drink to wait for our room.
Pendry has the absolute cutest bar/restaurant right off of the lobby called Fifth & Rose. They have the most amazing specialty cocktails with the most adorable names. I ordered my usual, an Aperol Spritz, and Justin ordered a Mai Tai. I love Fifth & Rose so much because I could sit there all day and just enjoy the beautiful decor and people watch. The thing I love most about Pendry is how cozy it is. Every time I go back, it feels as though I am coming home. I immediately feel so comfortable and that is why it’s my favorite place.
I got a phone call around 1:30 that our room was ready! We quickly walked to the front desk because we were so excited. They handed us our keys and we were on our way. We walked into our suite and it was SO BEAUTIFUL! We walked right in to a little kitchenette with gorgeous white marble countertops. After the kitchenette, you walk into a spacious living room and the bedroom. We walked into the GOOOORGEOUS bathroom and I was so excited. There was a huge deep soaking tub, a duel vanity and a beautiful walk in shower.
Once we got settled in our room, we did what we always do… crawled in bed and took a nap haha. The beds are sooo comfy, we literally couldn’t resist.
After a while of relaxing, we got up to get ready for the concert! I was so giddy the entire uber ride there. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I LOVE The Greatest Showman (I only post about it 5x a week lol). When it first came out, I was immediately obsessed. I still cry almost every time I hear the music and watch the movie. I have always been a big fan of Broadway, so I was really excited to see Hugh Jackman perform some of his Broadway songs. The show was absolutely absolutely incredible. He is such an incredible performer and he is literally the human energizer bunny. It was a 3 hour show packed with The Greatest Showman, Beauty and the Beast (his first ever show!), Les Miserables, etc… I had so much fun and Justin is a precious gem for going on his birthday night and pretending like he was having the time of his life.
After the show, we grabbed some dinner! Justin and I have had a little tradition for about 2 years now every time we go to San Diego, we eat at Burger Lounge. It is just a block away from the hotel and the burgers are sooooo incredible. We have done it every single time we go to San Diego, so we just had to. We took it back to the hotel, ate it in bed and watched movies in our hotel robes. Basically the perfect night.
We woke up the next morning after an amazing night’s sleep so refreshed. We walked to get some coffee and stroll around the city. We popped into the restaurant at Pendry, Provisional Kitchen. Provisional is one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever seen. It is so aesthetically pleasing and the food is so good. They also have a ….wait for it….. CHAMPAGNE. VENDING. MACHINE. Yes, you read that correctly. There is a Moët & Chandon vending machine that has champagne and rosé. To purchase a bottle, you go to the front desk and purchase a gold coin for $25. They give you a little bag that contains the gold coin and a bottle stopper. You put the coin in the machine and voila! You choose your bottle! I got the pink bottle of rosé for obvious reasons lol. After breakfast, we decided to head back home. The day we left was the first day of Comic Con, so we didn’t want to overstay since we knew the hotel was going to have a busy day.
On our way back home, there was one place I knew I had to stop at. I have been following the café Holy Matcha on Instagram for a while now and I became obsessed with it. They serve matcha tea lattes which are my favorite. I order it at Starbucks almost every day and it has really helped me get off coffee. I couldn’t tell you the last time I had a cup of coffee ( I used to have like 2 cups a day). Holy Matcha is covered in pink walls, green palm leaves and white marble. Basically the most aesthetically pleasing café I’ve ever seen. We just grabbed one to go and I drank it on the way home. It was soo yummy and I cannot wait to go back and try one of their other lattes. I highly recommend trying out Holy Matcha! Not only will you get the perfect Instagram photo, you will find the best matcha green tea latte.
Although it wasn’t a long trip, we had the best little staycation to San Diego. I absolutely love the city and sometimes I wish I lived there because it is so cute. Now I am just planning our next trip… where to???
